Long-term partnership: How AROBS Helped Modernise STARFACE’s leading UCC Platform

Founded in 2005, STARFACE has spent  two decades building a “made in Germany” UCC platform delivered across cloud, appliance, and virtual machine platforms. Since February 2025 STARFACE is part of the Gamma group, a leading pan-European provider of cloud communications, Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS), and digital PBX technology.

STARFACE is an award-winning champion of its industry, recognised for quality: from TMC’s INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year (won for the ninth time with STARFACE 9) to repeated Channel Excellence and Top 100 innovation awards. And with the recent move from STARFACE 9 to STARFACE 10, which adds new AI capabilities, the platform reflects a vision of continuous modernisation that keeps pace with growing demands for scalability, security, and integration.

Challenge

STARFACE needed a reliable technology partner capable of expanding its engineering capacity over the long term, without compromising on quality or delivery speed. The goal was to build lasting capability around a complex, continuously evolving communications platform while upholding STARFACE’s vision for quality and innovation.

Solution

AROBS assembled a dedicated, stable engineering team that has grown from a small group of 3–5 specialists in 2018 to around 8 people today, and is fully embedded in STARFACE’s core development organisation. The team follows the client’s internal workflows.

Over the course of the engagement, the team took ownership of a series of strategically important deliverables: an automated test platform for IP telephony, ECSTA-based functionality for monitoring call events (initiation, answer, and termination), the migration of core systems to the Spring Boot environment, the development of licensing modules, and the ongoing rewrite of the administration interface from the legacy Struts framework to React, built on REST APIs and a standardised hexagonal architecture. The migration to new frameworks helped facilitate the cloud integration process. The team also contributed to automating the testing of the client’s desk phones.

The engagement is led by a technical lead and a software architect, with a team composed entirely of senior and mid-level engineers. This depth of expertise means AROBS specialists sometimes coordinate with the client’s internal developers on architectural questions.

Results

Since 2018, the AROBS team has helped STARFACE ship a significant number of features while continuously improving the platform’s stability. The nearshore delivery model has allowed STARFACE to advance its core product significantly faster and advance several strategically important topics that it would not have had the internal capacity to pursue on its own.

Why it worked

Consistency was the foundation. Instead of rotating resources, STARFACE has worked with the same people for years, engineers who genuinely understand the product, the customers, and the processes. Over time, this continuity built trust, domain knowledge, and a shared understanding of the platform that traditional outsourcing cannot achieve. The line between internal and external teams has effectively disappeared.

“If you’re looking for a technology partner for a genuine long-term collaboration, not just a vendor for individual projects, you should talk to AROBS. Since 2018, we’ve worked so closely together that the line between internal and external has effectively disappeared — that creates a level of continuity, trust, and quality that can only be built over years.”
Andreas Paulsen, Head of Development & Quality Assurance, STARFACE
